Website Accessibility

Garvestone Primary School is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including those with sight, audio and motor impairment restrictions.

This site aims to have all pages validating to HTML5 standards. There is a link at the bottom of every page to check its validity,

All pages use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) – this allows a user to set their own stylesheet if required.

All images have ALT tags with descriptive mark-up if appropriate.

Pages meet many of the checkpoints of the Web Accessibility Initiative’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, as specified by the University of Oxford Web Accessibility Policy and we are working towards conformance to the A standard.

Users should note that, although this site supports basic rendering for legacy browsers, accessibility features are optimised for users of Internet Explorer versions higher than 6, Netscape versions higher than 4, and other browsers complying to the standards. For security reasons and your browsing pleasure, using the latest version of any browser is highly recommended.

Internet Explorer 6 – Although this site will display content for users still using Internet Explorer 6 or lower, it does not fully represent the layout of the site as the developers intended. To receive the best possible browsing experience, users of IE6 are strongly advised to update to a newer version of the software, or use one of the many free alternatives available.

Responsive layout – this site uses responsive css (@media queries) to resize content to fit the device on which it is displayed. Images and text resize to a fluid width depending on browser window size. Occasionally, some features which do not render/work well on small screen devices will be hidden via CSS in order to provide a better browsing experience – however we only do this as a last resort.

Mobile technology – This website has been tested for use on mobile devices.

Website content is available in text format if required. Please contact the school directly if you require this.
